July 2024

July marks the half-year mark. The goals and intentions set at the beginning of the year have become dust or are well on the way to being accomplished.  Either way, there is always time to catch your breath and renew. A few friends and I got together last weekend and did a mid-year vision board. It was refreshing and motivating, allowing me to get refocused. One of my main areas of focus is my health.  Just as seasons change, so do our bodies.

Health is undeniably our most valuable asset. It encompasses physical and mental well-being and influences every aspect of our lives. When we are in good health, we have the energy and vitality to pursue our goals and enjoy life to the fullest.

Physical health is crucial because it allows us to perform daily activities without limitations. It affects our ability to work, exercise, and engage in hobbies or interests. It allows us to live out our dreams.

This time of year encourages outside activities, travel, vacations, and more socializing. We are cautious with the obvious preparations, such as staying hydrated, wearing sunscreen, seeking shade during peak sun hours, and being aware of air quality and pollen forecasts. However, just as much attention should be paid to eating choices and daily diet during the summer months.

In Macrobiotics, we learn that the summer months focus on the heart and small intestines. These two organ systems become most active and energetic during this time of year. Therefore, focusing on supportive foods, particularly for these two organ systems, will allow efficient function. For example, keeping hydrated is good, but too many fruit juices, fruit smoothies, and carbonated drinks will deplete minerals from the body. We already sabotage our minerals with too much sugar and processed foods. Therefore, as you prepare lighter dishes such as salads, add seaweeds like arame, dulse, and kelp flakes. They add flavor, color, and, most of all, digestible minerals.

In this month’s cooking class, I will demonstrate three heart- and digestive-friendly salads. You will also learn about the importance of maximizing the nutritional benefits of both the salads and the salad dressings.

My programs have always had an educational purpose: to teach self-care. I know that the more I learn the basic details of physical and mental well-being through macrobiotic living, the more freedom I will have to make healthy life choices.

Whether you do a full individualized consult /coaching program, attend the monthly cooking classes, or participate in the community summer series, Wisdom Wednesdays video club, it is about self-responsibility and self-education. Especially in this month, when we celebrate freedom, nothing is more freeing than discovering your health code for maximum living.

I’d like to invite you to familiarize yourself with the programs You Can Heal You offers, which are highlighted in these monthly newsletters, to enhance your knowledge in a community environment.

Join us on Saturday, July 20th, for this month’s cooking class. The class will feature a lecture on how best to maintain a healthy heart and enhance digestibility. We always end the class with a delicious lunch and socializing. Invite a loved one who would benefit from a motivating gathering; it may change their lives!

Ultimately, when we prioritize our health, we enhance our longevity, productivity, resilience, and ability to enjoy life’s experiences fully.

My best,

~ Virginia
