In 2001, I was asked to write an article for the Yoga Journal, giving pointers on how to be self-motivated to focus on self-care. One of the points I emphasized was the importance of self-love. What or who we love will absorb our attention. That same attention should be self-directed. Self-care is about prioritizing ourselves.
February is the month that represents love. With heart signs everywhere this month, it’s a reminder to express love, and as we express love around, it’s essential to keep ourselves front and center. That love can begin with self-care.
According to Chinese medicine, February is also the last month of the winter energy seasonal rotation for the organ systems. Winter months stimulate the kidneys, adrenals, bladder, and sexual reproductive organs. Spend this month loving your kidneys.
You can nourish kidney function by providing nutritional support such a buckwheat, azuki beans, cabbage, and sea vegetables. Using external remedies such as ginger compresses and caster oil packs will unblock stagnant energy and bring healthy blood flow to the area. These few suggestions will enhance your daily energy and stamina by nourishing the body nutritionally and energetically.
In this month’s cooking class, I will be wrapping the season up with tips and information on kidney care. TLC for the kidneys will help support the immune system and enhance resilience.
Join me on Saturday, February 15, for a lecture and cooking demonstration.
Come and enjoy a kidney-supportive menu.
